Turnkey Project
Project
A leading riser manufacturer from the south of England went out to tender because they required an engineering company who could provide complete turnkey services for the manufacture of high pressure riser sections.
This included supply of material, machining of component parts, qualification of welding procedures to ASME IX, API and Norwegian standards, weld fabrication of the joints including heat treatment and assembly.
AJT Engineering were successful in winning the contract based on being able to contract manage and also able to carry the work out all in-house therefore limiting the supply chain involved.
Solution
The first step was to qualify weld procedures, to the exacting standards required by all three controlling specifications, for joining API5L X65 pipe material to AISI 8630 and AISI 4130 alloy steel connectors.
This part of the contract involved completion of various test pieces and stringent mechanical testing of the simulated joint assembly and was successfully carried out within three weeks including review and acceptance by third party inspectorates involved.
Next stage was to machine, and inspect the component parts prior to fabrication and welding of the riser sections, to keep this on track with the client’s project plan timescale we were able to offer extended hours working in all aspects of the work scope.
After machining and dimensional inspections were carried out the component parts were passed to the fabrication and welding department for final fit up and joining which was carried out using a semi-automatic submerged arc welding process on a continuous shifts basis and included monitoring of the welding parameters by an independent party for impartial verification.
After completion of the welding operations all of the full penetration butt welds underwent a post weld heat treatment operation, carried out in-house by our own highly trained technicians, and rigorous non-destructive testing to ensure compliance with the relevant specifications, prior to final painting and preparation for despatch within the prescribed project timescale.
